Can anyone identify these?

Post by Rob88 »

Hi all,I have sussed out all the electrics on my GTI aprt from these two.
The round one is 3 pin,2 grey wires to 1 pin,a red to 1 pin and a blue to 1 pin.
The other one is also 3 pin,a black and yellow and a black to 1 pin which is live on ignition,green/black to 1 pin and two brown to 1 pin which are earth one has a connector that fits the bulbs.I pressume one of these would fit the clock in the centre consul next to the ashtray but I don't have it.

At the risk of sounding thick, what is an XLR connector. As far as I know and can find out the electrics are standard.

You have the 82 GTI, yes? In which case it ought to have an oil temp gauge next to the ashtray. Can't really help any further though.

yep 82 GTI and yep it should have the oil temperature gauge but it's missing.
I've now found out what an xlr connector is and it certainly looks like one,and there's no power coming from any of the wires so I would think they may be speaker wires of some kind.Which would mean the other one is for the oil gauge, can anyone confirm ?Rob.

Just been out to the car and found the wires to the rear speakers and the round one is indeed a speaker connector. It looks to be original,if not then someone has done a good job as it's routed through the car properly and shrink wrapped the same as the other wiring.

The square shaped connector goes on the back of a VDO oil temperature gauge in the centre console. The green/black wire goes back to the oil temperature sensor on top of the oil filter by the way, the others are ignition fed 12V for the gauge and gauge light, and earth (brown)
