Twin 45's balancing, etc

Post by Akinesis »

Just got some twin Weber 45's fitted and they sound awesome I can't wait to try the car out around a track!

Just need some house-keeping advice on how to balance them and set them up. I will take it to a rolling road (and on the subject of that, can any give me a rough-price on a professional set-up?) to have it done properly, but I'd like to know how to do the basics myself. I have an air-flow meter to fit onto the inlets, so I suppose it's just the idle/mixture adjustments I need to worry about, right?

The Weber's are bolted to a Ottinger KR engine (Ottinger cams, vernier pulley and exhaust). The engine was running 149bhp before the carbs were fitted, but it hasn't been on a rolling-road since. Anyone have an idea of the BHP I can expect with the carbs fitted? There is also a lightened fly-wheel in there too and a OMP group-N exhaust.

It runs on super-unleaded, so I can advance the timing to gain a little more power? If so, how do I do this? I see that the dizzy can be loosened and turned, but how do I do this properly and which way to turn?

It will only ever be used on the circuit, which I assume means I need to set the carbs up for power/torque and not have to worry about economy

Thanks in advance!
