I got a set of wishbones off ebay last month and have just got round to having a stab at fitting them. After taking the old ones off I noticed that the new ones have a much larger lip around the bushing and from what I can tell, don't look like there going to fit. I just wanted to check with you guys that I'm not being stupid before I chase up the seller? they were listed as fitting mk1 and 2 sciroccos. I've got a 1986 gt if thats any help? Thanks in advance (pics bellow)
Is the fitting problem that the larger lip fouls the mounting on the car, or are there alignment issues (the new one looks strangely offset from the pics) ? Popping a length of suitably sized rod or dowel through the bush on the new and old parts should highlight any alignment issues. If the problem is that the flange fouls, if it really is just a turned over flange, there shouldn't be a problem grinding/filing it till it clears. (after all, it wasn't necessary on the old part) If you have any doubts about what the structural integrity of the part wil be like after modification, don't alter it, and don't fit it.
Shouldn't be a problem fitting. You may also note that original wishbones where left and right handed, new reproductions are universal fit. Not many people know that little factiod.
If it does turn out to be a little snug just run a file around the lip, it'll save you a lot of hassle compared to posting adn getting a refund/replacement etc etc.
thanks, it was the lip causing the problems but just wanted to check on here that they weren't obviously the wrong wishbones before i took a file to it. Shaved a few mm off and seems like it will fit fine now
