rear brake bias not a scirocco but VW related.. :-)

Post by Mike the Founder »

Hi all.
a friend has a caddy that is modded, he just put it into MOT and it failed - one of the things was the rear brake bias adjuster on the rear suspension - you know the one that changes the pressure to the rears dependant on how low the car is i.e. how much weight it has in it.
Now it failed because this item is seized. I told him can he not just remove it - but the Mot man apparantley said not?? It was fitted on the car so it must be there?
But my point is since the car is modded and sat on the floor on tiny little 13" wheels, the things gonna be telling the rears its full of weight anyhow isnt it? so he would be safer without it?
cheers all
Mike..

He could fit an adjustable one in the dash like im planning to do for my GT2. I got a willwood one from rally design for £50.

he had too buy a direct replacement from G&S in the end for over 100 squid.
MOT man was adamant - it was on there from manufacturer it had too be there mot.
once mot is thru tho - he's gonna get rid as most caddy blokes have as its not required not being a load carrying vehicle... :-)

Woulda been cheaper just taking it off and then getting it MOT'd at another place, but then the modern MOT system is a pain and kinda stops you doing that....

thats what he was gonna do, but i said the same thing too him, plus he didnt pickup on some stuff he shoulda done, so its swings and roundabouts. :-)
told him to fit it - MOT it - Take it off - and sell it straight away, might only lose a few bob. :-)

mot man is corrcet, sadly
mot testers' handbook wrote:Check that a load sensing valve is present and connected, if it is a standard item

reason for rejection: Evidence that a load sensing valve has been removed or disconnected from a vehicle where it is known to have been fitted as standard.

Not having actually seene one of these small creatures... a suggestion might be to remove a valve (an old one perhaps?) drill out the gubbins and then reconnect so that it's just acting as a pass through. That way, the "valve" visually is still there... just it aint doing anything.

I shall assume that they are not allowed to dump half a ton of crap in the back of a pickup just to check that it is "working"
