Scirocco Register

Hi guys im wondering after changing the master cyclinder and all pads and shoe's the cars brakes are still terrible iv bled the brakes countless times and still noting?the servo is working for sure as when the engine is not running the brakes are rock solid!!! Any suggestions please as it's ready for the road now and i kinda like being able to stop with out my foot nearly going through the floor

Sorry to sound condescending, but how long ago did you change them? It'll take three days or so for the brakes to bed in properly.

Scirocco brakes are notoriously soft anyway. It's just a question of how soft they actually are. Any time i drove mine after being in a modern car i thought something had happened to them. They really have no feel whatsoever.

Might be worth investing in some braided brake lines. They are supposed to stiffen everything up a bit. Apart from swapping over to a 256mm brake set-up, there's not much you can do beyond that. It's a matter of getting used to them.

engine off and pump the pedal a few times to depleat the vacuum in the servo. now stand on the pedal firmly. does it slowly sink to the floor? this would indicate a leak somewhere. if it does, find the leak and fix it before driving it on the road again. if it doesn't i'll stick money on your rear brakes not being correctly adjusted.

i changed them last week :D Yeah from driving the gt version i see how bad the brakes are my foot nearly go's through the floor to stop haha

I know, every time i jump in the Rocco after driving my modern daily car the first few roundabouts are always a bit "oh jesus"

is there not something that can be adjusted on the bar that goes across the back of the engine bay? sorry i cant remember what the actual name for this gizmo is. i have to stop drinking stella on a saturday night.

I think the problem is with the adjusters on the back brakes as soon as you adjust them they reset

gsf do a "fitting kit" for the rear brakes that i think includes new adjusters. you'd need to check though. chances are they've never been replaced. the problem is caused by either the wedge has worn smooth on it's edges (should be small teeth-ish on it) or the spring that pulls it down has gone weak.

did you check for pedal dropping?

Yeah nate the pedal seems fine :D gsf website is impossible to use im never sure what im buying haha

GSF's fitting kit does not include the wedge shaped adjusters, just springs and shoe fasteners

Iv got a friend of mine whos a mechanic reckons he might have a machine that will force every bit of air out of the system so i hope this might help

I always thought scirocco brakes were pretty gash compared to anything else i have driven. I had new shoes on the back for the mot and have had to adjust braking routines and have bled the system twice.

got new adjusters on the rear brakes? are they now staying adjusted?

Always had problems getting the brakes bled properly on the Scirocco, finally figured out that using an eezi bleed, and the pumping the pedal method at same time does the best job.
