...hi there I have a 85 gt 1600 running a Pierberg 2e carburettor now I am having a few issues which I am working through. The pull down unit is broken and I can get another complete carburettor cheap but the guy said it only had one vacuum port on it not the 2 ports I have on mine. Can I use the part from the other carburettor or do I need a 2 port pull down (what is the difference in terms or running). Also the waxstat seems to move out in a bowl of hot water but does not seem to do enough when in situ, in that the rpm still stays high.
I'm going to say fit a weber too. The pierburg is just not worth the hassle. A weber has a manual choke and a throttle cable, and thats about as complicated as it gets. Fair enough its £200 (or second hand for naff all) but you'll waste so much time and money trying to get the pierburg to run and it probably still wont be right when you're done. it has a nicer induction roar too!
Have to admit, I spent a rather long time and effort trying to get my pooburg to run right. After about a month of faffing about I took hte plunge and fitted a Weber, best thing I did.
BUT when the pooburgs are running right, they're good carbs, it's just getting to that point first though!
agree with everyone. I had a pierburg on my 1.8GT for three years, was always paying to get it sorted, and eventually it ran pretty well. But when I fitted a Weber i never needed to look near it again and the car felt like it had another 30bhp, although that may have been an isolated case.
