5 speed upgrade
other than a 5 speed box (obviously!) what other parts are needed to change from 4 speed to speed?
Re: 5 speed upgrade
The correct kinked linkage rod - the longer of the rods with the socket joints on.

Re: 5 speed upgrade
in the past someone has put a 5 speed box in mine.but the gear leaver is only a 4 speed and some of the gears are hard to find 1st and 2nd....so if i get the 5 speed linkage it will work with the 4 speed leaver????
Re: 5 speed upgrade
I don't think the lever in the interior of the car is different between the 4 and 5 speed boxes.
When I can find pictures of the two rods, I'll post them up so that you can see the difference.

Re: 5 speed upgrade
Hopefully these links will work and you will see the difference in the long rod between the 4 and 5 speed boxes
4 speed box - the rod across the top of the picture

5 speed box

You will also see in the pictures that the 4 speed box has a smaller rubber ball on the end of the relay shaft lever than the 5 speed box, so that might also need changing along with the selector lever that the rubber ball locates into.

Re: 5 speed upgrade
Have you tried adjusting the linkage underneath the car? The process varies according to the age of the car, but the haynes has the details.earl thebay wrote:in the past someone has put a 5 speed box in mine.but the gear leaver is only a 4 speed and some of the gears are hard to find 1st and 2nd....so if i get the 5 speed linkage it will work with the 4 speed leaver????
