More power with a Weber 32/34

Hi guys, I have a standard 1.8 Mk2 rocco (gt2) running a Weber 32/34 carb. I'm taking it to a rolling road on Wednesday to be set up properly, should I be looking at a power increase above standard. I believe it was only 90bhp.

I had the carb fitted and set up by the same company before but they did a naff job. They stripped and rebuilt the carb and then when they re-fitted the carb it was loose on its gasket. They also melted 'T' pieces to seal them off and screwed bolts into the ends of vaccuum hoses to seal them too.

Not best impressed when I spent a lot of money with them!

probably not. it isn't a performance modification, it's just a direct replacement from a different manufacturer. think of it as like fitting beru plugs instead of bosch ones.

common practice. it works effectively and reliably.

Thanks for the reply. Fair enough, I'm not looking for anymore power...yet, but at least they can refit the carb securely. Should thread lock have been used to fit it?

Hi Ady,

That'd make sense IMHO. The thing you probably WILL notice with the Weber (I certainly did) was the fact that it is much easier to tune so you should see an improvement compared to a badly setup pooburg.

Don't get me wrong, the poobergs are a GOOD carb, if you know how to master their tuning and setup. My local garage dude took one look at it and laughed the first time he saw it. Not a clue, by his own admission!!

We had the weber tuned perfectly within 5 minutes, including getting the mixture just right on the gas analyser, and it's probably me jhstifying the cost, but it makes a cool sound too

i've never used thread lock fiting a carb. if you're concerned about it happening again, just put a dab of nail varnish on the head of the nuts that goes onto the thread (make sense? i've just woke up) which will prevent them coming undone again

i'm quite anal, so it's got to be as near to the bodywork colour as i can get
