Hi all
Newbie question, but what is the large green plastic Ball-cock shaped thing that connects to my Carb and Exhaust manifold on my '91 1.8 GT2?
I'm having idling/running problems, and a mechanic told me today that it looks like a fuel overflow, and that I should try disconnecting it, and capping the pipe.
Any ideas? And whether that would make any difference?
Thanx
Phil

Re: Weird Ball-cock thingy connected to Carb
Hi Phil,
As far as i know it's a vacuum reservoir used on the original pierburg carb. Nothing to do with fuel, no fuel lines go to or from it? Might be worth checking if your mechanic knows his stuff. The fuel reservoir/swirl pot is the metal cannister that sits on a bracket attached to the front of the rocker cover. There is a thread on this topic called 'fuel reservoir' on here somewhere, may be worth a look.

Thanks for that, I'm glad you told me that. Could the Vacuum reservoir have anything to do with my running problems? Or should I just forget its there? Seems a bit weird to me that he's told me to cap it off.

The Poo-berg 2E I'm afraid. I bought a second hand replacement one instead of buying a Weber, and am having it fitted on Friday

I wouldn't use him then.................philiano wrote:and a mechanic told me today that it looks like a fuel overflow
It's a vacuum reservoir for the Pierburg. I assume that's because there's so many vacuum dependent items on the Pierburg, it acts as a vacuum "store" for when you floor it and the natural vacuum is lost.
What problems are you experiencing?
Fast idle?
Choke sticking on?
Flat spot?
Hesitation?
