Hi all,

Does the Scirocco have its own steering boss requirement or is it the same as the Mk1 Golf?

Thanks in advance

Earlier cars are the same as mk1 golf, later ones as per mk2 golf* I forget what the changeover year is '87/'88/'89?

*the spline on the later cars can be removed to allow fitment of the mk1 golf boss, but this can be tricky if you're not built like Arnie.

My 'Rocco is F-reg (88?). Hmmm, right on the cross-over year by the looks of it :dash:

this should help

http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufact ... l=Scirocco

call them - you should be able to verify via quoting your chassis number.

I was under the impression if your factory wheel is the "4 button horn" type, then your car is small spline, if the later, chunkier single horn wheel is fitted its larger spline? :dunno:

Please anybody feel free to correct me if I'm wrong

Take your steering wheel off and measure the diameter of the spline and post it in here. I will compare it to mine (steering wheel is off at the moment so easy to do) and then you can be 100% sure which you have :)

Ok, I'm over at the garage all day tomorrow, so I will have a look and post it up tomorrow night. Cheers for that :ok:

From August 1988 a short multi-splined adapter sleeve (Part Number 191 419 514A) was fitted onto the steering column splines.

From January 1989 the short multi-splined adapter sleeve was gradually replaced by a long multi-splined adapter sleeve (Part Number 191 419 514). In conjunction with the long multi-splined adapter sleeve, the spacer sleeve used with the short multi-splined adapter sleeve was replaced by a spring.

Slugga, the spline measured to be roughly 15mm in diameter. What do you make of that?

100% you have the early, smaller type. :)

So Mk1 Golf bosses are the kiddie my my 'Rocco? Many thanks, Slugga - you've been a great help :buddy: Nearlly bought a Mk2 boss, aswell  To answer your question, Risocco, I have the larger horn type wheel, but the smaller Mk1 spline - so your theory isn't quite right :nerner: Cheers for all you help, guys

No sweat. I'm sure the diameters are something like 15/16mm for the earlies and 25mm ish for the late ones.

Yep definatly the smaller spline. Ive got an early golf Mk2 with the four button steering wheel and that it the small spline and a 91 Scirocco with the larger spline so I measured them both and its around 15mm for the smaller spline.
