I understand this is a common problem!
Or maybe just common on both Mk2's i've had, and the last 3 gloveboxes I've looked at buying...
I'm talking about the lock that is supposed to be held to the lid inside a square hole, preventing it from being removed!
On mine, and all the others i've seen, the lock will pull away from the lid and has been broken by someone at some point.
(overly keen to get into the glovebox without unlocking it?)
Has anyone either got one that is unbroken, or found a solid way to repair it securely...?
I'm looking at maybe getting a stainless braket made up that could be riveted on to the lid, and hopefully hold the lock on
better.
Maybe it's something we could get a batch made and be of use to other members?
Including other improvements like:
-The brass parcel shelf clips!
-Decent metal headlight adjusters + clips
and all the other things vw have either discontinued, or cut costs on making in the first place...
Just a thought.

Re: Glovebox lid broken lock
I have exactly the same problem, and it irritates the hell out of me.
I think what's needed is probably a couple of small self-tapping screws to hold the lock into the metal frame it sits in - but they'd be hellishly difficult to get in there.
I'm going to have another look at it this weekend - the glovebox is straight-forward to remove in its entirety, so should make working on it easier.

Re: Glovebox lid broken lock
I had this and fixed it with a permanent repair.
Will try and take a photo of it at the weekend - it's very easy and only needs a thin piece of mild steel, hacksaw, drill, 2 x self tapping screws to sort.
Mine's now even stronger that it was when it came out of the factory and you can't even see it.
ps - as for parcel shelf clips, they only usually brake due to age hardening. New one's are still available from VW (about £1.25 each? - see my other post) and should last a few years at least before they go hard enough to snap again.

Thanks for that Matt.
Would be very interested in seeing your repair! Been trying to decide the best way...
Sure others would be pleased to see it too.
