Repairing behind bodykit - West Mids based

Post by danbeier »

Was parking the car today on side of a country road when caught some concrete buried under pile of leaves. Half took off the bodykit from drivers side front wing. Don't think was that tightly glued anymore and also ripped out couple of the screw holes (although they might have already been out?)

Anyway, when I'd taken the rest off so it wasn't flapping around I saw that there is a largish patch of rust on front arch (crumbled a little bit with just fingers). Know without taking the rear parts off that there is more rust there too so am thinking about having the whole bodykit off, getting someone to repair / replace wheel arches properly before refitting.

Two main questions:
1. Has anyone had this done / know a garage that would do this kind of thing in West Mids area (could maybe travel a bit if train station nearby to get home!). Doesn't need to be show standard - just a decent job at reasonable price, would hopefully be hidden by bodykit anyway (rear arches may need replacing completely; front arches just little section welding in?)

2. What are the views on whether leaving sections exposed (not as a permanent solution, just before it gets sorted - may be few weeks / months) that would normally be under bodykit is going to cause extra damage / corrosion?

Thanks for any help,
Dan

Hi Dan, i took the kit of A20 GTX in the Autumn and it wasnt too bad tbh - previous repairs worse than(what turned out to be mainly surface corrosion). Bit of rustproofing for now and it will be cleaned up properly prior to paint 'sometime' this year - see project thread.

You should be able to feel very bad rear arches and their condition without taking the kit off i would have though?

hope you're well.
