Hi all I am new to your forum so be gentle - Brought a 1990 mk2 scala fi during the summer 175,000 miles just run in !! has a few issues that i will post seperatly to keep things simple. But my main problem at moment is water in both front foot wells, planning to renew screen as it has a few chips in anyway, to eliminate the leaking seal problem, however new seal appears to be maindealer only at £80++, just wondered if anyone knows of an alternative supplier, or any other options, like resealing the original screen in situ and success likelyhood . Thanks for now

Hi and welcome along. :) 175k is just a baby ;) I'm also looking into getting a new windscreen seal and currently thinking that the dealer is the best bet for one that will do the job properly. I'm in the same situation as yourself but have already replaced the glass and tried resealing the old seal in place after cleaning off all the old hard sealant from a previous fitting. If anything I'm getting worse puddles now than i was before.
Separately when you take the old screen out, you'll either find rust on the lip where the seal sits which will need treating, or like mine, the seal has rubbed away the paint to bare metal and will need paint before putting new glass in, just to stop it rusting out and leaking in the future.

Thanx for your info on that - was going to have a go resealing it over the weekend end, but you're probably right the only sure cure is a new genuine seal and screen £££££! and repair any damage. Thanx for help. Will update as it happens.

No harm in trying to reseal it, just that it makes it a much longer job to sort out and clean up later if it doesn't work. ;)

Any ideas what the best stuff is to try and reseal - was going to try a polyurethane type sealant.

Why not get windscreen cover on your insurance and then claim on it???
