Running issues

Post by Doire Abú »

Hi all, I've been using my scirocco recently after putting a weber on it earlier in the year. It's a 1992 1.8 GTII. Now and again it bogs down at low revs and won't really pull at all. I've been checking for air leaks as that seems like an obvious cause, but there don't seem to be any in the hoses. The next thing I was going to do was buy a rebuild kit for the carb and try that. I haven't check the timing yet, but it only happens sometimes. It revs and idles fine, but won't take any load at low revs. There's plenty of fresh fuel in it too, and the timing doesn't sound like it's far off, and to say it again, most of the time it runs fine.

Had a similar thing with mine, turned out one of the ignition leads was slightly loose. Would be fine most of the time but under load I guess the extra vibration shook the lead a bit loose. Try new plug leads or just make sure they're tight!

Ah, I'll get my friend to try that this week. It actually hasn't had a set of leads or plugs since I bought it in sep 08, so certainly couldn't hurt. Suppose I could check the coil too when I'm at it. Thanks for the input!
