snapped ignition key mk1 scirocco???

Post by malmac »

Hi there, need a bit of advice. Due to a freak accident my ignition key is now in two peices and the spare that i had made doesn't work !! i think my original was worn so difficult to get a copy cut. Is there any way i can get another key by locating serial numbers etc or is it just a case of changing all the locks :crying:

thanks for looking.

I've had a key made from using the lock as a guide in the past.
Any good locksmith should be able to do this on a suitable blank.
It would still be cheaper than new locks all-round as well!

im just on with making a one key lock set. have a look at this and see what you think, its a bit of fun...lol

MK2 ignitions are exactley the same so all you need do is get one with a key and then reset the rest of your locks... I have one with a key if you want one £10+postage? I could even throw in a load of tumblers.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies, very interesting and useful. "81gti" thanks for your link, looks like a good option for me, i'd never of thought of it!! my only concern is as my spare key was supposed to be the same as my snapped one surely the codes would just be the same?? or would they just reset themselves around my inserted key?? if that makes sense??

If so, will take you up on your offer, can you let me know total and how to pay you??

thanks alot
mal

Hi, i'm in no rush, no. I've just realised that i'm totally confusing matters. My spare key doesn't work in the ignition so it would be pointless going on with it. Think my best bet would be to take you up on your offer of replacement , with yours being a mk2 ingnition, will my cowling fit ok etc. I can send you paypal or chq etc.

thanks again.

I was thinking of that but the spare key wasn't much use, and that was a copy of the original key when it was still in one peice, so i don't think it would work.

thanks for your help though.

Use this guy in the states
www.mark1vws.com/id3.html
He cuts a key from code onto an original vw key and sends them over.

I just had two cut from the key code, delivered foc for £18.00 ish
