ABF engines
What are the most likely cars to find an ABF engine in?
The more specific you can be about year, spec etc, the better.
Cheers.

Re: ABF engines
Seat toledo or cordoba are the best ones to look out for... Being from 'boring saloons' they will most likley had a less of a thrashing than a GTi. Plus you can pick up a whole car for sub £400 so you will know what the engine is like before you put it in.the edmundator wrote:Thanks. Mk.3 GTIs seem to be the best hunting ground...

Re: ABF engines
Also the Seats are newer so potentially less miles on them in general and if you want to use the o2a cable change box have a cable operated clutch mech instead of hydraulic. I've pulled an ABF engine, loom, gearbox, gearstick mech for cable shift out at my local scrappy for £100. My 205 was on its bump stops by the time i'd finished.

Thats right, iirc its only the Seats that have the cable gearbox.Tim_R wrote:Also the Seats are newer so potentially less miles on them in general and if you want to use the o2a cable change box have a cable operated clutch mech instead of hydraulic. Re: ABF engines
The problem with the Seats is that there aren't that many around. The ones I have seen are priced closer to the £750-£1000 mark, and tend to have an auto 'box too.
There are dozens of 16v Golfs around. Passats, if they turn up, do tend to be cheap though.

Re: ABF engines
I personally wouldn't pay more than £350 for a ABF with all ancilaries. Unless its modded or been rebuilt (with proof). The odd car does come up on Ebay etc which are cheap. I'll keep an eye out.
