recomended engine oil.
anybody know what engine oil is best for the old rockos? i rang VW and they recommend 10/40. yet the haynes manual says 15/50 or 20/50 which seems a bit thick too me. what is every one using in their cars?

10/40 Magnitex, might be expensive, but as much protection as possible is worth it :) i also noticed a considerable differance in performance over the very cheap oil that had been put in prior to me owning it :)

Good oil is well worth it. You'd be surprised at how much difference it makes. Same with anything, godo filters/plugs/fuel etc etc all adds up to make the ponies gallop a little healthier.
Castrol Magnetec or Castrol Edge Sport are both pretty good.

Re: recomended engine oil.
VW 10/40 Synta Silver all the way. If your car has solid tappets (pre '86)and oil pressure is a bit low, then you could consider going to 15/50, but hydraulic tappet cars don't like thicker oil. The Fuchs semi-synth stuff that GSF sell is also a good brand. You can buy Synta oil from http://vwspares.co.uk at a good price. If you buy 2 or 3 cans at a time, it works out pretty cheap too.
If your car burns oil at all, stop using Magnatec, and you might find it disappears.
