Good evening,

Continuing the recommission of my Scirocco after a significant absence from the road, another question please?

Just a recap first, been a busy few weekends 8-)
  • Fuelling issue - resolved with new lift pump
  • Full service with Syntra oil (10w40)
  • New drive belt (Gates)
  • New timing belt and tensioner (Gates)
  • About to fit another new timing belt as there was some swarf at the bottom of the cover that took the writing off and was audible with the squeak; better safe than sorry!
Ah! Where was I?! Steering wheel

I have a ?Polo (smaller) steering wheel on at the moment

I have the original, cleaned since this photo, but am being daft as cannot think which way the brown and black leads go :?

Thank you in advance!

It doesn't matter which way round the black and brown wires are connected - as long as the flag connectors are oriented so that there is no risk they can touch each other accidentally.

If you want to be OCD about it, I photographed mine as I took it off.

Personally, I prefer the older, four button steering wheel.

The older steering wheels use a small spline so it is necessary to remove the large spline adapter. Also you need a plastic spacer to place over the steering column to avoid the horn sounding uncontrollably.

Thank you for calming my CDO :-)

Now, that’s a steering wheel I’d quite like too! I’m going to look at running with the original for a while, now to keep an eye out for the older version; reads like effort, I’ve not been in the interior modification in any of my other vehicles.
Nearly time to plan a winter project for sure!

Thank you
