Hi,
I may have the original water pump still attached, and it’s just started grumbling. My mileage is 143k it is going to be changed, but how much longer do they last?
Now, am I better off trying the VW parts department to see if they still stock this part, or can anyone recommend a good quality replacement manufactured part.
Anyone know who the original manufacturer supplier was?
If this has lasted all that time, I would be interested in good quality over cost.
Cheers

Re: Water pump query
Bit of an update…. After failing mot on trivial issues I elected to ring TPS in Blackburn to see if they had an original water pump. They have but it can only be sold to trade customers only. So my car is booked in with the mot garage for rectifying the failures, and the pump can be done at the same time.
I was quoted a pump price of around £60-£70, so we’ll see when it goes in next Thursday.
I’ll update accordingly.

Re: Water pump query
I hope the water pump is the complete unit for that price not just the motor part as to split the unit can be a problem as the bolts rust on place.

Make sure they fit a new thermostat when changing the water pump.

Re: Water pump query
I think it is the full pump including the housing, but I’ll check, thanks. I did change the thermostat last year, I didn’t do the pump as it wasn’t showing signs of wear…. Typical. 270K wow that’s great engineering for you.
kind regards,
Dave.

Re: Water pump query
The genuine VW water pump I bought a few years ago was the full pump, so you should be okay.
Worth checking, but I think the pump is an exchange part, so you should receive a part refund if you return the old pump.
