Re: 1988 Scirocco GTX 1.8 FSH
Any advice on the sale of this Rocco?
I’m not in a great rush to sell but i picked up this great runner, all original for £2500 in February, i’ve spent some time and money on her without piling on the miles.
I thought i’d at least get £2000 as some roccos of the same spec are going for this as rolling projects!
There is literally nothing to do on this daily runner, she runs well as a result of that. Any advice welcome, perhaps it’s just the worst time to be selling.

Just a bad time
Gtx is a rarer model and its reasonable miles. You should hold on to it till you get the righ price.
Sell it cheap and itll just pop back up at a higher price

Not many people want a classic car or have spare cash just before Christmas, spring time is a good time to sell.
Looking at your picture in eBay, might be worth getting some better pictures taken at the same time on a sunny day, wet car pictures are not very helpful to a buyer, interior pics good, picture of under boot carpet?
Maybe give the engine a good clean, what’s the white gunk below cylinder 4? change the expansion tank hose the thin frayed hose, find another strut top cover or just remove the 1 you have fitted and leave it in the boot, spray painting the rocker cover and top cambelt cover makes a huge difference and 1 spray can will do both.
These are just things I noticed and may not help with a sale but maybe a few things I would address if selling a car.
I used this paint on both my cars nearly 2 years ago and it’s lasting very well, they do a satin finish but I found if any oil gets dropped on it marks so I’ve now got both cars the shiner black in the link, I’ve even painted my radiator surround which does get very warm and the paint is holding very well.

Thanks for the input, I guess I will have to be patient, I will get some better photos. With exception of the driver seat, the interior is good and I guess I should really show that off.
I never clean engines but then again I guess people see dirt and think it hasn’t been looked after.

Engine does not have to be spotlessly clean and show condition, I use some “Gunk” on my engine every couple of years, I use a washing up brush to work it in around the oily bits leave it to soak for 1/2 hour or so then a gentle wash off with a hose or even a water spray bottle, be careful not to soak the dissy, coil etc as you may have problems getting it started again.
Once dry I then use some silicone spray on the black plastic and rubber bits to give them a little shine.

Re: 1988 Scirocco GTX 1.8 FSH
Engine bay looks fine to me. When I'm buying, I prefer a bit of honest dirt to something that's clearly been tarted up recently. It's not like it's filthy or caked in oil. I think it's just timing. If you can wait until spring/summer then you'll get a much better price. You need to consider how much it will cost to keep it for another six months, though (tax, insurance, MoT etc).
The property market tends to kick off around Easter, I imagine cars are much the same.

Thanks guys, all points considered I’ll list it again next year. But for anyone reading, she's still available for sale.
