Hi everyone, just joined last week as two weeks ago bought a 83 A Reg GTI that has been locked up in a dry garage
for the last 10 years 118000 on the clock 2 owners has anyone got any idear how many are left ? its totally original
inside and out

I've got an 82 gti and I believe there are about 6 from that year on the road. Those how many left sites aren't too accurate though. Any pics? U got the US style headlights and the 2 piece parcel shelf?

83/A will probably have twin wipers, normal UK headlights and the later parcel shelf. However, some cars left Karmann with variations on the spec as they changed from the '82 model year 1.6 GTI to the '83/'84 model year 1.8 GTIs.

The DVLA produce some stats on how many of each model are left, but these are notoriously unreliable. Suffice to say, an '83 GTI is one of the less commonplace mk2 models, and comparatively desirable.

I was told when I got mine Y Reg that it was built in 82 for the 83 market. Mine has a 1.8 engine the US lights, single wiper and split shelf. Anyone know the cut off for the single wiper/ US lights?

Don't worry some more investigating has allowed me to answer my own question

Yep, yours is basically one of the Karmann parts bin specials and not an official "model year" spec.

sorry got it wrong first regestered 30/03/84 its got a single parcel shelf 2 oblong and 2 square head lights in the main grille
and 2 fog lights under the bumper
in the original paper work its got optional extra codes ;A19. 179. 451. 527. 560. 685. 711. any idear of codings????
got 5.5 x13"snow flake alloys and 3 extras, space saver in the boot.
1780 cc with fuel injection ,and 2 wiper blades
