Passed....
But inspector commented on weak rear brakes. Handbrake good though. Wonder if i have a dodgy braided hose or crushed brake pipe. Is there any sort of proportional pressure valve on the GT2??

Not proportional no, but there may be load reducing valves screwed into the bottom of the master cylinder for the rear brakes.
Not sure on specs but some cars have them and some cars don't, there are two different types of rear wheel cylinder, for cars with and cars without the valves. If you've changed the cylinders recently it may just be that you have the wrong ones.

Ben.

congrats mark h, another year on the road!
my mot is due on monday and must admit im a little worried about the emissions, ive not had chance to check it since the new exhaust has been fitted.

its a good point on the brakes though as there are two types of rear cylinder 14mm type and 17mm type one is for applications where theres no proportioning valves and the other larger type is for those that do.
ive just bought pagid 17mm ones from euro car parts today for £6.50 a side as mine are weeping slightly and the wrong smaller 14mm ones, also have new shoes and handbrake cables too to be on the safe side.
i would have changed it all sooner but didnt realise the mot was up so soon :swoon:

James / Ben, thanks for the replies, thinking it through its got to be hydraulic. The car has braided hoses and new drums to the rear, the rear cylinder does sound like an idea (I was thinking dodgy rear braided hoses or squashed brake pipe). At MOT test test front brakes left and right were 210 ish and rears were down at 40/45 ish. Handbrake was 45ish.Replaced master cylinder not long ago, the load reducing valves screwed into the bottom of the master cylinder?? Will check later.
What size of rear cylinder (14mm type and 17mm type) is needed for a 1991 GT2 ??

Mark

i would fit the 17mm if you have the 2 load valves under the master cylinder.
that said your readouts dont sound too bad as i thought the rears were supposed to be 20-30% of the front readout when not under load?

Fronts are great, rears are shit were the testers actual words.

The proportioning valve you mention above James is the that the one on the rear axle and not under the master cylinder?

Sorry for all the dumb ass questions mate

even heritage sell an adapter that looks the same for the same purpose to drop the pressure for disk applications. but the same is for the 2 types of wheel cylinder one style is for cars without the pressure reg and the other is for cars with a reg.

Yep 17mm wheel cylinders for cars fitted with regulators underneath the master cylinder.
FYI - 99% of the time it's later cars use bigger cylinders and early car with out the inline regulator use the smaller cylinders.

there is a chap called stephen clarke on the fb selling section , he is based in felixstowe. may be able to help you out in a rear beam with the disc setup already in place. good chap at reasonable prices too.
