Dashboard mats

Post by the edmundator »

I am enquiring about dash mats from a company in the USA that makes them, but for LHD.

I wondered how many people here would be interested in RHD versions - I thought I might be able to convince them to produce a mirror image if there was enough interest. The LHD ones are for sale at $36 (~£25) in various colours so I'd hope a short run of RHD to be under £50 each by the time you add shipping and tax.

Mk1 and/or Mk2 - they do both. We all know how much the dashboards like to crack.

Anyone keen?

If there's no interest (from them or us) then I'll by a windscreen shade instead.

A silvered windscreen shade is more effective tbh. Keeps the temperature down inside the car. All the heating up and cooling down helps them crack I think. I have one of those wire and fabric pop up ones that folds down into a little circle. Cost me a fiver about 5 years ago. Unless you want something more for shows ?

i looked into this last year while i was in california and most of the manufacturers were happy to make one if i could provide a rhd dashboard
hence why it never happened.
but if you are going to do a bulk order ed i would be interested in one in black

its also the fact the dash is made from some kind of hardboard and when moisture in the air is constantly blown into the dashboards innards for years it slowly swells up, vinyl on the other hand shrinks with heat and age which in turn eventually tears and forms cracks across the dash.
if you take the dash out of the car you can be sure the vent aperture to the windscreen demister will be bent out of shape so not lining up with the plastic vent box reducing the demist function as a result of the material swelling up and deforming.
if my dash cracks again i will just have to have it flocked along with the door cards.

They haven't said no and there was talk of sending a test version, so this might yet be possible.

I'll keep you posted.

like you say it depends on the price, but maybe he might do a deal on a job lot.
