Front Brake Disc Replacement
Looking for advice guys. Looking to replace the front discs on the GT2, would I see any improvement going to say Black Diamond grooved or drilled discs ? looking to sticking with 239mm diameter and running the Black Diamond Predator pads. Info VW Heritage site state they are suitable for fast road or track use.
Or is their any other brand worth considering (EBC??).
Don't really want to go bigger on diameter if possible, outcome is to get a little more feel and if possible increase in performance.
Any thoughts.

You might get a better initial bite with grooved discs and expensive pads but it depends how sensitive you are to these things. Braided hoses will help with "feel".

Got braided hose fit and replaced the brake fluid in the summer

I've never found the brakes to be a problem on a Scirocco, but there can be a great variation between individual cars, particularly in terms of pedal feel. All of mine (getting on for 20 of them) have been entirely standard. I'd just make sure everything is renewed and working properly, then get used to giving them a decent shove.

I found Brembo disc and pagid pads have a good "bite" on braking but I've not every tried "uprated" pads, drilled or grooved discs before.

Braided hoses, green stuff pads and dot5 are good with stock discs. If you need a hand mark give me a pm and I can come over and set up your brakes

On my last Scala injection I fitted the master cylinder from a Mk2 Golf combine with Pagid front discs and pads and uprated the rear drums to the larger diameter ones from a mk3 golf estate combined with the golf 3 rear slave cylinders.
make sure there is no slop in the brake crossover linkage and the Scirocco brakes can be reasonably good

dont use EBC. i did and the pad material cracked and came away from the metal backing, plus word of warning with drilled disks is they are prone to cracking too which mine did.
last time i changed my disks and pads i went for all pagid disks and pads and imo are exellent for normal driving.

I've heard dozens of reports of ebc pads (both car and commercial) failing prematurely due to the friction lining crumbling away when they get hot.
I always used to fit paid fast road pads, but sadly they stopped making them :(
Face vented or drilled discs don't provide any extra friction, but they are meant to dissipate heat better and stop the brakes cooking quite so fast. In practice this is unlikely to make much difference in normal road driving. Drilled discs are prone to suffering heat cracks. The extent that they do this varies from one manufacturer to another. Some small amount of cracking is acceptable in service, but should be monitored carefully.

I finally changed front discs, pads, new brake fluid and fully bled (Black Diamond grooved and vented discs, EBC Greenstuff pads) and to be honest no noticeable difference. Discs nicely bedded in (even wear pattern) after 50 mile drive, pads will need a little more time.
But the issue pedal movement.
Pedal goes a long way down, probably half way until any real bite occurs. I understand from the literature that the pads need more actual force to make them work to their optimum, would you say the Master Cylinder is faulty and not generating enough force ??
Any ideas...

Adjust the rear the brakes as that makes a different to the feel of the pedal.
If the master cyinder is faulty you will find that if you press hard on the pedal and keep pressing the pedal will slowly go to the floor.
If you keep pumping the brake pedal with out the engine running till the pedal goes hard the press the pedal down hard and start the engine does the pedal drop a little?

Adjusted rear brakes as per, hooked the bottom of the wedge through a bolt hole, then got a mate to stand on the pedal to take the pressure off the wedge so you can pull it down.
If I pump the brake pedal with out the engine running the pedal goes hard, when I start the engine the pedal does drop a little.
The money I have spent on these brakes and time / effort, I should be pinned against the windscreen when I touch the pedal.
Any ideas ????????????????????????

As said before you will NOT get a decent pedal if you adjust the rear brakes with the handbrake cables adjusted up, back off the cables at the handbrake lever end self adjust the brakes and THEN adjust the cables to 5 or 6 clicks , it will take up all of the play in the system

Many people quote changing to a 9" servo and mk2 Golf GTI Master Cylinder.
Presently it appears the Rocco has a 9" servo (172 612 105J), am I right in thinking that either a MK2 Golf or MK3 Golf GTI 4 pipe outlet master cylinder and reservoir would be a direct replacement for the standard Rocco Item?? Only needing modification to the piping to fit the new master cylinder port positions??
Am I correct in thinking the std Rocco Master cylinder is 20.64mm and the MK2 Golf or MK3 Golf GTI master cylinder is 22.2mm ?? This would give increased pedal feel
Would we have clearance issues with the coolant reservoir or front strut brace??
