Which oil?

Post by Red Rocco »

Hi, going to do an oil change on the Scirocco next week, what oil is best to use? I've read that Quantum Synta is best to use but is of a different grade to what the Haynes manual states. Haynes says to use 15w/50 or 20w/50, the Quantum oil comes in 10w/40 grade or lower, will this make much difference? It's a 1.8 GT2 by the way.

10w 40 semi synthetic is what you want, oils have moved on since the Haynes manual was printed, Synta is what VW would put in your car.
Mann or genuine oil filter are also a good idea and both can be bought for £3 ish

Offer on oil has just finished. :-(

Thanks for the reply, I thought that might be the case, i've seen the Synta online for about £17 which isn't too bad. I have already got a Meyle oil filter which is a quality German make.
