I note there is a "wanted" ad on here for a Diesel Scirocco.
I have often wondered how many of these exist in the UK.
I know it's a relatively easy engine swap, but one has to wonder (well I do) why

Re: Diesel Sciroccos
If you live in the sticks and do lots of mileage, diesel. I have seen one in the flesh with a turbo diesel fitted. Drove really well and pulled great due to the Sciroccos light body wieight. Not my cup of tea but each to their own.

Re: Diesel Sciroccos
Guy I worked with put a MK2 Golf 1.6 GTD into a 16GT rocco back in the 90s. The GTD was his bros and he wrote it of. Said it was a great car as the 16GT was a bit slow and thirsty for him. Not sure where it ended up but I actually remember seeing in in autotrader about 15years ago.
With newer TDi units putting out serious power be great option combined with 60mpg, although my scala i is great on fuel, over 40mpg and goes like stink so can't see why bother myself with all the wiring issues etc, but each to their own

Re: Diesel Sciroccos
Seen a few golfs converted to the TDi diesel on the Mk1 golf forum but only seen a few Sciroccos, There was a Mk2 Scirocco and a Mk1 Golf at the Scirocco national meet.
I think it's a fairly straight forward swop but I think you need to change over the gearbox as well so the ratios are longer as I think the diesel only revs to 5000 rpm?
Would be nice to know how many diesel Sciroccos are out there?

Re: Diesel Sciroccos
Just to add, I also own a VW T25 Camper (Tin-Top stylee ). Mine has the 1.9 flat four petrol motor, but some have a 1.6 Diesel (either turbo, or non turbo) and it is pretty common on those to do it the other way around, ie Diesel out and Rocco (Passat/Golf/Audi) motor in. Some folks go the whole hog and take a 1.6na out and put the 2Ltr TDi Diesel in and apparently they go very well for a heavy camper van.
