I bought the car around 4 years ago, from the 3rd owner. I have the original bills of sale, and the history when owned by an old chap who passed it onto his wife. GLS spec with all interior parts, in very good condition. Having 50k mileage things are in good order generally for a mk1.
ENGINE
The head gasket went on the original engine, so I sourced a local engine with 40k miles on it. The injection and cams have been replaced for KR mk2, and the engine had new water pump, cam chain, cambelt, clutch gaskets, hoses, HT leads & plugs. It has a full stainless Jetex exhaust, with a Supersprint manifold. New fuel lines, fuel pump & accumulator, tank and associated parts.
ELECTRICS
The fusebox has been replaced for a CE2 unit, so the engine bay is essentially mk2. New clear headlights.
RUNNING GEAR
New brakes, braided flexis, bearings, roll bars, powdercoated hubs & rear beam. New cables. FK 6 point adjustable coilovers. 9" servo upgrade and new brake lines.
BODY
Generally its very dry, without the usual horror spots. The car does need a restore but it wouldn't be too involved. There is a rust whole in the tailgate, and rust on the door bottoms, and a dent here and there. Some of the trim is a bit tired.
I've put the car together as it is now so that it will sell, I'm looking for a mk1 golf again so would consider a PX for one. I've not listed every single thing I've spent on it, or every fault, but I've covered the key points. There are some issues that need ironing out - the ISV is faulty, the exhaust rattles and leaks a bit, and the tracking needs doing - and various other 'finishing touches' that need doing. but it really flies, and sounds great!
