Rear Windows and Boot Glass removal

Post by Austin »

Hello,

What's the best way to get the glass out the rear quarters and out of the hatch for the boot? I'm assuming the same method it applied for other vehicles as well. The reason, my mate has a Mk 2 16v Golf (no he won't let me have the engine) that he's going to 'track' and wants to remove the glass and put perspex in its place.

Don't say 'smash it' we want to do it cleanly

Anyone?

Four Sciroccos, four gone, but at least I know all parts from most current one went to good homes....

Simple for the quarter lights, just lie in the back of the car, and push the glass out with your feet ( obviously you need shoes on) it sometimes helps to run a screwdriver around the inner part of the seal first, but they don't take much effort to pop out. Same goes for the rear glass, but there's more chance of it breaking with it being a larger area of glass, although you could cut the seal out with a Stanley knife first.

Don't ask me....it was like that when i got here !

This is definately the best way, just make sure you have someone with safe hands to catch the glass and you'll be fine.
