Today replaced the old filler neck, rubber connecting pipe and all jubilee clips. now I have a leak which seems to be coming from under the connecting pipe and the fuel tank inlet.
On assembly ensured everything was spotless and tightened the jubilee clips up now (wont screw anymore). Fuel gauge has a reading of 1/4tank, so presume that some fuel will flow back into the connecting pipe.
If I raise the car at the front, this exaggerates the problem, any ideas welcomed. Changed the fuel cap, could there be some pressure build up ??
Cheers
Mark

Re: Leak after fitting new filler neck
Hi
The filler neck although metal is quite flimsy and easy to distort if you over tighten the jubilee clips. A better idea would be to use the metal wire type not jubilee clips.
Was the rubber connecting pipe a genuine part as I have had 2 off ebay and one was a nice tight fit the over was lose.
Also what filler neck did you use a shortened golf one or the holy grail a original new Scirocco one,
Hope this helps

Re: Leak after fitting new filler neck
Hi Chris
The rubber connecting pipe was a genuine one, the filler neck was new supplied and from a very reputable source. The leak is only a spoonful overnight but the concern is with more fuel in the tank (>1/2 tank) the leak will get worse.
At first I thought it was from the tank itself, but you can see the leak propagate from between the hose and the tank inlet.
Do you think metal wire type and not jubilee clips will help ? Just fitted two jubilee clips to the tank inlet as a test
Cheers

Re: Leak after fitting new filler neck
Hi Mark
The problem with worm screw jubilee type clamps they never equally compress the hose your clamping on especially thin steel.
I take it that's the type you are using if so.
What I would use is either wire or the band type that have a proper nut and bolt they compress equally around the hose.
whereabouts did you mange to get the filler neck I made mine out off stainless 1.5mm thick exhaust pipe in the end.
Thanks
Chris
