Heater blower not working + mileage not working

Post by MattRocco »

Hey guys few issues really.

Firstly upon driving the car home when I picked it up the heater fans stopped working, they worked on all speeds now on none. I have miss placed my handbook so can't see if there are any fuses or locations for them. Any advise/common problems is much appreciated or even fuse location/number.

Also the mileage doesn't increase at all. The speedo/mfa and everything else work but the mileage is stuck on 150k odd and didn't move in the 80 mile trip home. It's my thinking that there's either a cog in the cluster that's given up or maybe someone has tampered with it (to try to clock it maybe). Is there any repair kits or has any had this issue resolved or is it a case of new instrument panel time?

Thanks in advance for any help
Matt

Does the blower work if you hold the switch and either push on it or rotate very slowly? Mine is intermittent and I've found that rotating it slightly either side of the 'stops' brings it back to life, I'm guessing worn or dirty contacts.

Haven't tried that but I'll give it a go at the weekend when the head goes back on and it's all running

My heater blower started to work intermittently, it gradually got worse until it finally died completely. Tried a new switch first (cheapest option) but it turned out to be the motor itself which I then replaced & all is OK.
With the damper weather coming on, I'd look to change the motor if I were you. It's no fun being stuck in traffic, p*ssing with rain & you have to keep your window down to demist.
Old Mac Rocco & Eefy had the same problem as me around the same time last year. There's a thread somewhere on here.

Yeah had the same problem and a change of heater blower sorted it, can get one form ebay for about £30ish, oh and dont use the Haynes manual to see how to fit it, they will have you stripping out most of the interior and draining off the engine coolant!!!! theres a much easier way, check out my build thread to see how :)

Link to repair for your odometer, common problem for the cog to spin around and not move the miles over, it happened to my Mk1, so I removed the cog and super glued it back on and 12 months later it still works!
First check the speedo cable is pushed all the way in at the back of the dash before taking everything apart as it might be something as simple as that..

Thank you very much for that! Will take the speedo out at weekend and bring it to work and have a go in the week
