irratic rev counter and speedo mk1

Post by malmac »

Hi, my speedo and rev counter normally work ok but when i reach speeds over 65mph they become possessed by something strange and start to waver around. I'm due to change the speedo cable anyway, but i doubt that's the problem, anyone had any similar symptoms as i'm not sure what to look for. I've tried sprinkling with holy water !!

My rev counter does it in any gear or standing still, if I get the revs over 3000 rpm it waves all over the place till I get to about 4000 rpm then it stops waving about and works normally all the way up to the red line.... It worked fine till I took the car off the road for the restoration.
Still not found a cure, I've tried cleaning the connection to the coil and made no difference so interested if anyone found out how to stop it.
Speedo waving about should be fixed with a new cable.

Thanks for that, 65mph probably does coincide with over 3000rpm so mine looks to have the same problem as yours. Fingers crossed the new speedo cable will come to the rescue.......
