Hi everybody
Firstly I’d like to apologise to the mods if this is in the wrong section or breaks any rules. In 2008 when the recession hit and I couldn’t find work, to occupy myself I decided to rebuild and re-spray my cosmos blue storm. Eventually I found work and progression started to slow as after working hard all week working at the weekend became less and less appealing. I've been telling myself for years I’ll get round to finishing the project but two years ago I started my own business and I’m spending all my time focusing on that so realistically it’s never going to get finished unless I wait until retirement.
I've posted this in the hope that there’s someone out there interested in finishing the project as I really don’t want to have to break it for parts and scrap it. I’ll give a brief description off the top of my head of the car the work done and the new parts I’ve stock piled. If there is any interest I’ll sort everything out and find all the parts and give a detailed list but I don’t want to spend hours search the loft and the sheds doing if there’s no one interested.
The car is a 1984 cosmos blue storm 136708 miles. Original alloys, I think I’ve got the spare wheel and jack somewhere. I’ve got an original owner’s manual but I can’t remember if it’s from the storm or the other scirocco I had. The underneath is in good condition and has not been welded as far as a can see. The passenger door and bonnet are dented. The bonnet cable snapped, I’ve got a replacement. It’s had a patch repaired on the bulk head where the clutch cable comes through at some point. The tailgate had been replaced when I bought the car but it’s a bit tatty so I bought another from a storm that needs fitting. There is a small hole in the scuttle panel that needs repairing. The windscreen had been replaced when a bought the car and it’s a slightly different colour than the original. The leather interiors in good condition for its age, no tears just some wear. Looks smart once it’s had some leather conditioner applied. I was going to get one of the kits to recolour and lacquer them. Head lining is good other than where some ones been over ambitious with filling the boot and made a few small tares. I have the original stereo. Everything worked on the car, electric windows ect and it has all the badges ect. The electric aerial had snapped I have a new one to replace it.
The work I’ve done is as follows. Completely stripped the front end to a bare engine bay and spent weeks sanding the entire bay and all the parts I’d removed. The bay’s had 2 coats of zinc primer, 2 coats of 2 pack primer, two or three base coat and two coats of clear. When spraying the clear it was difficult to see how much was being applied so there is two small runs but these won’t be visible once the engine bays filled. The colour looks awesome and once the rest of the car is done it would look stunning. During work on the engine bay the fuel line got snapped so will need replacing. All the parts from the bay including the break system were dismantled and individually painted, brackets, wish bones, hubs everything was sanded down and sprayed with two or three coats of primer and two or three coats of black cellulose. I started polishing the gear box but after a day I thought I was getting carried away so it’s just clean rather than polished. The hubs have had new bearings installed. The head has been removed from the engine and the block has been stripped bare. I’d prepared it ready for spraying with black HT paint and started putting the bay back together but that’s as far as a got with the project.
The new parts I’ve bought from memory are: Oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, head gasket set, head bolts, cam belt and tensioner, distributor cap and rota, engine bearings and rings, track rods and ends, ball joints, anti-roll bar bushes, brake pads, discs, electric aerial, basically everything to rebuild the front end. All the paint to finish the project, I know one of the two pack hardeners has gone off. The primers, base coat and cellulose should still be ok.
I’ve also got a few performance parts that I was going to fit, a 4-1 exhaust manifold powder coated black. An aggressive cam which I can’t remember the make of or profile without looking, I know its above 270. 16v warm up regulator. Schmidt modern line deep dish alloys.

Cosmos Blue Storm
Re: Cosmos Blue Storm
Painful to read given the lack of return keystroke - most won't bother.
Choices
Sell up as is - taking a £ hit I'd imagine, but to he honest it's an unfinished project, in bits and needs to be moved and then started again. A few hundred quid at most based on other similar stories we've heard over last few years.
Break and sell off bits.
Pay someone to re-start and rebuild - expensive and you'll never make the money back - it would have to be a truly cherished motor (I've taken this route over a near 10 year basis with both my GTX's). The Autoad would be the man to talk to on here if you look at his project thread.
Once you've decided then stick a thread up in most appropriate section.
