GT2 2.0 golf gti bottom end?

Post by sravenhill »

Hi all,

Will a 2l bottom end from a golf fit with out any issues using the my original rebuilt head?

Any advice on this would be great I'm running a 32\34 weber but just want a little more go.

Thanks

I'm thinking of doing exactly the same, any idea on the engine code of the 2.0 block, also does the original fuel pump work on that block? And probably a very stupid question, what cc is the engine after?

i assume it has allready been run in another car so the dizzy and blanking plate should allready be sorted

if not it isn't that hard you just need a dizzy ring with your standard dizzy and the 2.0 dizzy drive swapped onto it and the plate to blank the breather (i didn't bother to blank the breather i just piped it to a oil catch tank on the slam pannel)

what you will need is a electric fuel pump and pressure regulator as the gt2 has a mechanical pump on the block and the 2.0 wont have the pump drive to run it

in mine i used the standard mani and downpipe with no issues but have heard some have clearance issues with the standard setup

as for mounts you can just use the ones from the engine you pull out :yup:

there is the quick writeup i have done before its not too hard just a couple of bits that are needed

It would still be 2000CC as the head doesn't have any bearing on the cubic capacity.

Are the gt2 heads and 1.8 8v gti heads the same?

I'm pretty sure the carb and injection heads fit each other but there are holes for the injectors on a gti head that aren't there on a carb head. And the carb head has a water feed to the manifold that isn't on a gti one.

I am using a 2.0 9A bottom end of a Passat but also used in the Corrado.

Works fine wih the original 1.8 16V head.
