The metal cam covers bolt on using the 2 10mm nuts on the rocker cover. Both mine have metal!

OK sure but do both have to be metal! ? As I would still have the bottom part as plastic and would this still fit OK ? Cheers.

Mine 1988 DX engine Golf has a plastic bottom cover and a metal top, been like that since new.
Metal top cover is fitted by the 2 nuts also holding down the cam cover at the top and one sort of bolt (allen key head) near the alternator belt.
You can see the hole in the cover in the picture where the bolt goes, it's got a rubber bush around the hole to stop it rattling.

Right to fit these do you have to replace the rocker gasket ? Many thanks to those who can help.

No. The cam belt cover bolts on top of the rocker cover so although you take the nuts off it you shouldn't disturb the gasket enough to have to worry about replacing it.

You would have to do something very wrong to disturb the gasket, it only needs 2 nuts undoing and then doing up again!
