HELLPPPP MK2 GT AUTO, IDLING ISSUE

Post by aaronr »

Right i am in need of major help, my mk2 gt (1.6 auto) has decided to stop idling, have had her running for about 5 months now with the timing slightly out and finqally sorted it on sunday, since then she has been running like a pig :( cant seem to get her to idle right, and now shes sat on my dive not even wanting to start up without the accelerator being depressed, have sat and tried to get her to run right but cant, ive checked all the vacuum lines and they seem fine apart from the advanced vac on the distributor as not surer if it is mean to have a vacuum straight away or just when under acceleration can anyone help as its really pissing me off :(, ive also sat and tried to adjust the co mixture to no effect (she has a 2e pooberg carb) basically I NEED HELPPPPP lol

Check the rubber gasket that the carb sits on. It's quite probably seen better days. If you can get it running try and rock the carb from side to side and see if it runs worse. If you can't get it running, Try and press down on the carb while someone else starts it, if it starts you've probably got an air leak in the gasket. They aren't expensive but I would recommend getting a good quality one rather than a cheapo one. I ended up making a solid aluminium one but that also has some issues. Not as problematic as the rubber ones though.

Ben.
