Leather Restoration

Post by jimmy h »

Hi,
I'm about to start restoring the leather on my Mk 1 (passenger seat first) I'll be using a Furnitre Clinic kit.

Just wondered if there are any do's and don'ts? Also I figure it might be easier to seperate the back of the seat from the base, do the seats come apart easy?

Also, on the Storm is all the seat cover Leather, is the back cheaper material? the reason I ask is the kit I have stresses that the products should not be used on anything but. I know sometimes a cheaper alternative is used on the back and sides.

Whole new ball game this for me, I'm in the dark and looking for any advice!

Regards Jim

I used the same kit as you have bought, very easy to use, I had no issues.
The leather seats on my MK2 are all leather, no vinyl, so maybe the Mk1 is the same?

Cheers Ian,

Does anyone know how you get the handle that raises/lowers the height of the seat off? looks a pig of a job. I've got the seat in 3 pieces now but if I could get that handle/lever off it would make my life easier. (It's just in front of the seat pivot point connects to all the mechanism underneath)
