Mk1 gear box gear selector issues

Hi
Is the mk1 gear selecter mechanism the same as mk1 golf.

Yes it is, the 5 speed on Golf 1 , Scirocco 1 and 2 are the same.
What is the problem?.

Yes linkage the same as mk1 golf as is the most of the running gear and engine.
Which model of mk1 do you have? Is it 5 speed or 4 ? Some came with a 4 speed gearbox and have been changed to a 5 speed and maybe the 5 speed linkage not used? Could also be the linkage has not been set up right, there is guide in the Haynes manual with all the measurements etc.
