keep/remove panel in engine bay

i;m restoring/modifting my mk1 and not sure wether to remove panel in engine bay to make more room or keep foir originality.
it;s rotted throught near the clutch cable hole that some previous owner had done a very bad repair.
what do you guys think to removing it ?????
