I'm getting some strange knocking sounds coming from the front of the car, sound mechanical. Seems to go away when braking
I've had the car up and there doesn't seem to be any play in the bearings, outer cv joint replaced a couple of months ago and i've checked the calipers are on tight, retention springs in place.
It's not rhythmic and doesn't change too much from 10mph to 60.
I've looked at similar problems on forums, but the issue was typically bearings or cv joints which I don't think this is.
Just checking before I go out and buy new shocks, driveshaft and hubs to get rid of the noise.

Re: Knocking sounds O/S Front
Have you checked steering joints,etc.?
Checked ARB bushes?
Does it knock on bumps or all the time?
You say no difference at speed, does this refer to sound or does the noise speed up?
I replaced a wheel bearing which had no play, passed MOT easily, but was the cause of an annoying knocking sound. There was no obvious problem with it when removed, but the noise stopped upon replacement.

Yeah, checked and checked, but ruled out as there was no obvious issue and the knocking is no more or less over bumps, corners.
The sound is at the same noise level at any speed (perhaps slightly louder at speed just because the sound of the engine at 60 isn't drowning it out). The noise never changes it's sporadic knocking, it's not rhythmic at all ether which is all the more confusing, it sounds like something in the wheel arch is loose and banging around, but that's not the case.
I think i'm going to have the bearings replaced as from what i've read this seems the most likely suspect, even with no play.

Agree, change the wheel bearing as the easiest and cheapest option to start with. I had strange noises with my Scala, again passed a MOT but turned out to be the bearing.

Check the clips that that kind of wedge the brake pads onto the calipers(there are two types) . They can rot out and cause this kind of intermittent noise.
