what cover/guard do i need for heater blowe on mk1?

Post by malmac »

Hi,

I've been advised that on my mk1 scirocco there is a cover/guard missing which goes over my heater blower.

I can't find any images to prove it so i'm a bit confused.

I've got the black plastic rain cover which cover wiper motor and heater blower but apart from that nothing else.

Can anyone advise me what else i may or may not need?

The rain tray is all mines got over it. Something to stop it sucking in leaves might be a good idea. I was wondering about trying to fit a pollen filter too

Have a look for a cover guard for a Golf, as they had them fitted, whereas Sciroccos didn't. It is a shaped plastic grid that fits over the top of the motor.
This is for a Mk 2 Golf - to give you an idea

You need the one from the Mk 1 golf though - as found by litlkris

Can't see the reason why you want one fitted, its enjoyable having leaves and bits flying at you from the side vents when you put the blower full on..

Mk1 Scirocco never had one, I've one on my mk1 Golf and it does stop the bigger bits coming throught the heater but not the small bits.

I understand that the Golf ones don't fit, either.

yeah i got one from a mk1 golf and it wont fit without having to take the wiper motor out
it also looks like part of it would need to be cut out to re-fit the wiper motor.
i chalked it all down as too much work for very little gain and settled for that brief milisecond of horror when a leaf flies through the air vent at your face and you think its some sort of winged menace.

Edit:
Im still thinking of making something out of the base of the mk1 golf item and some finer metal mesh so i can bend it to fit around the wiper motor
If it's got tits or tyres it's trouble but I always go back for more.

You could also close the vents in de bonnet with mosquitomesh and prevent leaves and so on coming in at all.

@Rich Rocco,By the way it does fit but you indeed need some work to get it in place.

well today i tried again to force the mk1 golf heater cover onto the scirocco without sucess. theres just no way of bending it to get it in there without taking the wipers out and possibly other stuff.
so i decided that since i got the heater cover for free and had nothing to loose...
... I cut it in half
and voila it fit :p
I just slid the 2 parts into their respective sides seperately then bolted them in and put a cable tie in the middle (it didnt really need it tbh but i thought that bit of extra rigidity couldnt do any harm).
its in there pretty snug and works like it should so mission accomplished lol

far easier than taking everything out or fabricating something and it works just as well.
