Steelies Refurb

Post by Neillyboy »

I've been looking for a set of GTII steelies for a while to swap from my BBS RA's for going to shows a bit further from home. It's a real pain spending roughly the same time to clean the wheels as it does to clean the rest of the car so I got these late last year for £40.00.

I couldn't really justify spending £500 to get them professionally refurbished with new rubber so thought I'd give it a go myself. As you can see they are a bit rough but they are straight. I think we all know how to refurb a wheel so here are couple of pics of them finished. I've got both types of outer rings so I've added a pic with each type. I'm delighted with the outcome especially is it was a first attempt.

Just needing tyres now. Looking at Pirelli p6's unless anyone can suggest better.

They look good, you got a great finish.I used a set like that for a couple of years and they are so easy to clean and I thought they looked pretty good on the car.

Whose paint did you use and what colour was it? Wheels look superb.

I got the paint mixed into aerosol cans at my local spraystore. I've used their aerosols before and found them to have a good spray unlike some off the shelf ones. The colour is Vauxhall Star Silver 3. I took a wheel to them and they said it was the closest match to the original paint.
