high tickover.

Post by 81GTi »

i seem to have forgotten more than I can remember...the mk2 has recently started ticking over quite high constantly and i know if i pinch the hose behind the 5th injector this reduces the revs to normal, question is.. is the 5th injector servicable? does it need replacing? or is it the WUR thats getting it all wrong? I swear i used to know this stuff.. :crying:

You are confusing the 5th injector with the Auxiliary Air Valve (AAV). which is where the hose you pinch comes from.
The AAV may be sticking, as when the engine is warm, pinching the hose should make no difference to the revs. (I think I've got that the right way round)

Hi
had same problem a while back!!
I had to remove the AAV and soak it in carb cleaner for a few days!
This method works well as it doesnt leave any oily residue, such as if
WD40 was used. Think i've got a spare AAV somewhere in my workshop
if you cant free it up.

Best regards
Rob

Before taking off the AAV, it's worth checking that the two wires going to the plug that clips onto the AAV are intact. I had the same issue a while back, tried soaking the AAV, replacing it, etc - before I realised that one of those wires was broken. A quick bit of soldering and it was sorted.
