My Ongoing Project/Daily Driver

Post by bengould »

Thought it was about time I started putting some info up on this one.
Although I haven't really done much since I bought it, Will update with pics since I bought it when I can be bothered have a good look through my pictures folder and find some good ones.

Basically, as some of you will remember, I got this car in March after some complete tool decided to drive into the side of my old one

Since then have been a bit slow doing anything, mainly because everything works fine.
Fitted the weber carb of my old car

And some fancy seats I got cheap from where I used to work.
Image

Then not a lot else happened for quite some time. Been doing a lot of thinking and planning though.

Recently received a cheque from the insurance company for the above crash, so have started spending it. :-)

Firstly after much thinking and a fellow member posting a very good report about the company, I got onto Venom motorsport and ordered a set of Spax RSX coilovers.
Image
Not fitted yet, just waiting for some new top mounts to arrive and will be taking a trip up to Macall's garage tomorrow to see how we get on.

Then after far too long having a REALLY annoying REALLY big cheap & noisy backbox, Decided to get her booked in for a nice treat.
So have just returned home from RMS Stainless Exhausts (A company I would definitely recommend to others in the area) with this...

2" pipe from the downpipe back. Sounds Much better, drives much better and all custom made and fitted for £260, and guaranteed for as long as I own the car.

I don't mind who's there, will probably spend most of the time under my car swearing at things that won't undo. But I'd have a word with Duncan first since we'll be at his place.

Small update today, been doing a few bits and bobs over the last few weeks but unfortunately not got any pictures of most of the work.
Fitted new CV joints and new front wheel bearings after some interesting noises coming from the front end.

And today have been to pick up my fuel filler flap after being without it for several months while a friend of mine was playing with his airbrush.

Very impressed with the end result.

Again, No pictures because I'm a bit useless and forgot. :-)

Found an absolute bargain Kent 285 cam on eBid. Arrived this morning and fitted it today, along with a rubber rocker cover gasket that has been sitting in my wardrobe for a couple of months.

Anyone have any pointers on setting up the ignition timing for this cam? Or know any good websites with some info? Am about to invest in a timing strobe but I have a feeling it should be set up slightly different to a standard camshaft.

Decided it would probably be better to get the cam set up properly, so found a local weber specialist to set up the timing and fueling on the carb. While it was in there also got them to set up the tracking and camber correctly.

All that along with some Yokohama 50 profile tires has made a massive difference to the drivability of the car. Speedo is a little out but the car is now as low as the shocks will let me go and I get no rubbing anywhere. Speedbumps are a different matter, good job there isn't that many near me. :-).

Picked up a Pipercross panel filter for the airbox

Have also been rather busy getting a few little jobs out of the way ready for my rapidly approaching MOT.

New track rod ends and rear wheel cylinders

Also been busy on the inside with some door cards kindly donated by MacColl with some nice speaker pods built in.

And have been a bit creative with the rear badges.

Who's been a busy boy then ?????
Not sure about the badge work, I'll let you know when I see it close up.
How about a pic of how the car is sitting now it is all properly set up ?????
Still haven't decided on doing mine as it it used daily by a couple of pensioners who have trouble getting in and out as it is.
Still like my 4 X 4 look plus the roads around here are horrendous just now.

The badges do look a lot better "in person". Not exactly the best quality pics, taken on my phone at night.

And as requested....

Went in for an MOT on Monday afternoon, which it promptly failed.
Thankfully nothing major. Corroded fuel lines and noisy NSR wheel bearing being the main problems....

Headed over to MacColl's yesterday for a bit of a tinker. As usual I was pretty useless with the camera and only managed to take 1 picture, but I think some others might have some to add at some point.

New 8mm kunifer lines made up and ready to go on...
Image

Was awkward to say the least but after much swearing they are now all fitted.

Just need to get it beck in for the re-test and will be back on the road for another 12 months.
