eight this i mainly a exhaust query. im in the process of fixing my powerloss woes. after fitting the new fuel pump and fixing anymore loose ends while im at it. im gettint the car to run fine just need to tune the carb a bit more.
but it would seem im getting loads of white smoke coming from the inlet manifold or exhaust. the exhaust has had a blow on it since ive had it. also the inlet manifold has had a leak since ive had it. so that side of the engine is always wet in oil. would it just be oil burning off on the manifold or could it be acrack in the manifold. as the car has never really run right at all.
just looking for people whohave had the same problem realky to give me a lil bit of advice of what it could be.
this is my daily so it needs to be fixed asap.

White smoke would usually indicate either coolant or brake fluid, I would expect oil to produce blue smoke.

Is your rocker cover gasket leaking at the back and dripping down onto the manifold?

Something to think about, on the carb model there is a waterway just above the inlets for cylinders 3 & 4 & is sealed by a rubber O-Ring, if the ring is cracked it will spill water onto the top of the exhaust manifold & cause steam. You should also see the coolant level going down pretty rapidly. The only way to get the inlet manifold off from what I see is to use a mirror against the bulkhead & a No6 hex drive on a long slim ratchet & practice your yoga bending to get at the bolts. I've just done my head gasket & I wouldn't like to try & get the manifolds off with the head still on, but not impossible. Good luck & hope you get to the source of the problem soon.
