Mysterious knocking

Post by Mr Funk »

Changed the gearbox over last week and have encountered a mysterious knocking.

We've Checked the drive shafts (outers were new last year, think the inners were as well) and tightened everything.
It could be the wheel bearings BUT these were changed and pressed in last year.
At slow speeds there's almost nothing but speed up and it comes back.

Sending me utterly mental

my little saxo has started doing this, going to hopefully get it on the ramp have an investigation later on this evening.

my first thouughts were its a CV joint, but i dont know now. the knocking gets quicker with speed, but doesnt change with revs, and still is there if you put it in neutral or depress the clutch... also knocks go slightly quieter if turning?? and it sounds like its from the passenger side. so, this would lead to me to think its either the bearing, cv joint, or the differential????? cant really be anything else.

This the same as your issue jim? mine started after hitting a couple of floods at 50mph (ish)... and generally ragging the sweet be-jesus out of it for a week.

put mine on the ramp last night, its the wheel bearing.. no idea how it can self destruct in a matter of miles, but it has. its that bad when you drive the wheel looks like its buckled.

Thinking - has your wheel gone out of balance?????
