Tailgate lock

Post by roccoGTX »

I've done a very silly thing
I was cleaning the tailgate lock on my Mk2 ready for regreasing and accidentally turned the latch to the locked position. I now cannot return it to the unlocked position with the result that I now cannot close the tailgate. Is there a simple way of sorting this out without stripping everything out?
Any advice would be appreciated.

You should be able move it to the open position by sliding a screwdriver through it and pulling down while holding the boot lock in.

Many thanks for that.
I didn't even need to hold the lock in. I was trying to put the screwdriver in the wrong bit. Needed to be by the 'tongue'. Once I'd figured it out it went with a bit of a bang, but it's fine now.
I had a similar problem with one of the doors a few years ago and sorted that easily.
My wife won't even let me put the new grease in yet in case I mess it up again!!!!

Sorted - many thanks.
Once I'd cleaned the tailgate lock it was fine...........until it rained.
The water was coming through the lock -seal on the outside had split.

Cheers
