Boot Won't Lock

Post by Risocco »

Hey gang, bit of an odd one. My boot won't lock now. Put the key in, try to turn it and nothing happens? Won't move the barrel at all?

Obviously not applied much force as I don't wanna snap the key off, esp as I have 1 key for every lock.

Any ideas please chaps?

Yes work in some penetrating oil in there and it should loosen off. Had this previously with two other VW's just gets gunked up.

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO! you shouldn't use oil to lubricate a lock. the oil will attract dirt and kill the lock. if it's not used regularly (as many boots aren't) it will seize up quicker. locks should be lubricated with graphite. you can buy it very cheaply, or you can do it by "colouring in" the edges of the key with a soft pencil and working it it and out of the lock
