front suspension top mount bearings

Post by bald rob »

hi,
just fitted brand new(but after market) front suspension top mounts
to my '85 'rocco gtx....sadly the bearings were sloppier than the genuine
but badly worn ones i'd just taken off!!!!....
When i stripped them down again and compared the new but after market
with the old worn but genuine,i noticed that the spacer ferule that sits in the middle
of the bearing (the part that the shock absorber passes through) was taller and
significantly narrower by approximately half a millimetre, than the same
part from the original genuine bearing. when i swapped said item and reassembled
the struts this time there was very little play and on test drive were dead quiet!!!!
its only a little thing but saved me money i didnt have, hipe someone else can benefit
too!!!
