gti golf brakes
hi all,my old gti golf had really good brakes,my rocco however aint so good,can i put the golf rear discs onto the gt2?going to upgrade the fronts anyway but would like discs all round.sorry,its the mk2 golf i refer to for the swap oto the rocco.many thanks.

Yes from what i've read you can do this, and its not difficult but you will need a proportioning system properly set up otherwise you can have very seriously unbalanced braking, ie. the rears lock up first and spin you round on heavy braking or in the wet. Not good.
I'm no mk2 expert, but from my own experience its better to improve and optimise what you have now. Look into mk2 16 master cylinder and servo upgrade, theres a guide on mk1golf.org. Then upgrade the front calipers to 256mm mk2 16v setup or even better g60 280mm setup. But dont worry about the rears as a decent set of drums will be good. Braking at the rear is something like 20%. Thats my 2p! Theres lots on this out there, try clubgti and the faq section on this very forum.all the best with it

use the servo and master cylinder.
The mk2 golf use's a 22mm cylinder giving a better braking.
The rear disc set up is not a massive improvement on braking, so you might as well just renew the drum set up and save the ball ache of seized callipers which mk2's are prone to.
So 22mm master cylinder and servo,front brake set up renewed (or use mk2 golf stuff) and a good going over the rears / renew
Oh you may need to fit calliper adapters to space out the mk2 golf callipers on the rocco.

The MK2 Golf has also has better brakes because the servo is behind the brake pedal not on the other side of the car

I've never seen a mk1 with a servo in line with the pedal, I presume it's because there simply isn't room behind the suspension turret.

I'm not keen on rear discs... I've got them on my B4. (My 1st car with them on!) The upshot is I now spend twice as long cleaning wheels, because the rears get covered in brake dust as well as the fronts!
