What's German for ...

Post by Cpt Custom »

Seems to me that there are often far more bits (and often more bargains) for the beloved Scirocco on ebay.de than there is on the UK site, which is fine if you speak German.

I don't, so until now I've been dependant on Google Translate and what I've been able to pick up as I go along. Then today I was browsing through a Reiger catalogue and came across the following page ...

Image

I thought it was a very handy guide and one that others might find useful.

The only problem is that its a fixed image and so you need to remember how to spell the word so you can type it into ebay's search facility. Not good if you've got a memory like mine!

Then there are those extra characters too that we don't have ... ä, ö, ü and ß.

So, I typed it all into Excel, got rid of what I didn't think was useful and added a few others I've picked up myself like door handles, sorted it A-Z style, baked it at a low heat for 20 minutes and here you go ...

I know I'll certainly use it, even if I don't buy anything, so I'm posting it up here in the hopes that other folks might get some benefit from it too.

Its not going to be 100%, especially given I don't speak German, but as much of it came from the Rieger catalogue it should be okay ... certainly what I've tried out so far has worked okay.

Just copy the text from your screen and paste it into ebay.de and off you go. If there are any mistakes or anything missing you think we should add then just let me know.

Brilliant, my wifes German but when it comes to translating car parts its a different kettle of fish. I now know the different words for suspension and adjustable coilovers. Hurray!

Not cheap, but worth checking this guy out as he seems to be selling the side skirts and front bumper. Then you just need to track down the rear bumper …
